The
Covenant Soup Kitchen and Isaiah 58 Ministry were founded by St.
Paul's in 1981, and they have been housed in our lower level ever
since. As the Soup Kitchen grew it necessarily developed a more and
more independent structure. And, with time, the Isaiah 58 Ministry went considerably
beyond just providing food for the hungry..... to St Pauls and the.... |

For three years,
Richard Stewart has been staying with friends, a couple of nights
here, a couple of nights there. He tries to keep eight outfits of
clothes clean..... to after the food.... |

There is no
question that there is a need for the Soup Kitchen, and that it is an
example of Christ's message operating in the real world. However,
there is a profound question that anyone who believes in justice must
ask.... to why a need for.... |

The Willimantic
community is generally supportive of the Soup Kitchen, but there
certainly is a significant element that would prefer to see it –
and poor people in general – vanish. If it had to move..... to community.... |

WAIM: The Windham Area Interfaith Ministry. Supporting the local community by providing for basic human needs.
The Willimantic Food Co-op: Member owned whole foods market with a focus on locally produced goods. Its first home was St. Paul's basement.

Curbstone Press: A nonprofit publisher of literature that promotes human rights and inter-cultural understanding.
